HAGLEY VILLAGE ALLOTMENTS

Hagley Village AllotmentsWelcome to the newest iteration of the Hagley Village Allotment column for 2024. We are sister and brother (Anna and James) and we have a strong family history of growing produce. At least up until now anyway - as we are first time allotmenteers having recently taken on an overgrown half plot!

Our late grandfather had an allotment for many years in the 80s and 90s and we have a many happy memories of spending time with him there - albeit it whilst he smoked his pipe with his Condor tobacco and directing us of what to water next from the comfort of his bench…

Our parents also have a successful record in growing award-winning vegetables and flowers in Bewdley - although we’ve been frequently reminded that they are available now only in an advisory capacity!

We have two main intentions from our first allotment: 1. Christmas Dinner 2024 with all our own produce (except maybe the turkey). 2. Development of a sustainable cutting flower garden. Our intentions for this column are to document our journey whilst putting a spotlight on seasonal produce, cooking and preservations - we are both passionate cooks and planners of big cookery projects.

We are excited and really look forward to inviting you along on our exploits! Both of us really enjoyed Abi’s columns and hope we can continue her positive legacy…
