POPPY APPEAL IN HAGLEY 2023 This year our major presence in the village will be concentrated on our gazebo in Hagley, in the space kindly provided by Lex Allan Grove in Worcester Road. The stall will be open every day (except Sunday) from 9am to 4pm from Saturday 28 October until at least Saturday 4 November and may be open until Saturday 11 November. We will be able to take payments electronically.
We are looking for volunteers to help on the stand – if you could spare a couple of hours please contact the RBL Branch Chairman, Alan Kelly, on 07886 000052 or akelly@britishlegion.org.uk.
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legions major fundraising event of the year and contributes to the £2,000,000 spent every week in meeting the welfare needs of ex=servicemen and their families. In Hagley we raised just under £10,000 last year, and with your help, we hope to beat that target in 2023.
An important part of the role of the Royal British Legion is that of “Custodians of Remembrance” and, in conjunction with Hagley Parish Council, we will be holding our usual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service at Hagley War Memorial and St John’s Church on 12 November. We will also hold a wreath laying service at Blakedown War Memorial on Armistice Day, 11 November.
